Sep.05 — Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said last week he would resign this month after a year in office, and two opinion polls suggested former Foreign Minister Taro Kono is the favorite to become the country’s next leader. Still, the public doesn’t get a say in the choice of party leader, who will be selected in a Sept. 29 vote among LDP lawmakers and rank-and-file party members.
